Street Volkswagen’s Top Three Road Trip Games

Travel tips from Street VWThe holidays are coming and that means a lot of traveling for you, your family and even your friends. Road trips come with a certain amount of necessary preparation that must be completed before embarking on your journey. Do not forget it is important to take precautions and prepare for any situation that may compromise your family’s safety while on the road. Always keep an emergency preparedness kit in the vehicle at all times in the event of a breakdown, inclement weather or traffic jam. Once you get all the necessities in order, it is also important to keep everyone sane as well as safe during the trip.  Planning games and activities to occupy your time during the car ride can be an absolute lifesaver, especially for those with young ones. We wanted to take some time to share a few of our favorites that we think would serve as the perfect entertainment for your road trip entourage.

  1. 20 Questions – 20 Questions is a classic car game that can occupy an impressive amount of time while maintaining the interest of all involved. For those who might be unfamiliar with the game, 20 questions is literally a guessing game. One player thinks of an item and the rest of the players have a limit of 20 yes or no questions to ask to help figure out what the item is. The first question is standard as the guesser determines if the item is “Animal, Vegetable or Mineral?” 20 questions is a fun time consumer that is also very stimulating for the mind!
  2. Name That Tune – Now, some people may not be able to name that tune from Street VWcarry a tune, but can still play this game without too much pain inflicted by friends and family. Hum or sing a few bars from a song and everyone will try to guess that song you are singing. This game is simple enough, but carloads of fun, especially for all the music fiends out there. Depending on the demographics of your passengers, you can also choose a specific genre or type of music, although keeping it random makes it much more fun.
  3. SlugBug (also known as PunchBug) – There is nothing like a little physical bonding to keep your road trip fun. As SlugBug does condone a bit a violence, perhaps this one should be left to close friends instead of families.  Of course the game has evolved to require a rulebook (most of which are probably made up on the spot). In its simplest form, the game proceeds when you or a passenger spots a VW Beetle (affectionately referred to as a Bug). You or the other person announces to everyone that he or she has spotted a “Bug” and its color (i.e. SlugBug blue) then punches the person nearest him or her, preferably, in the arm. This game is literally a free for all and suddenly everyone will see every VW Beetle in town, or they at least think they do! It is great anger management and stress relief as long as none of the participants takes any of it seriously.  We obviously do not want anyone showing up for Christmas dinner with a black eye!slug bug by Street VW
